So in the first part of this project idea I had managed to scan and develop my 35mm negatives into ultra-high-resolution digital files. My next object was to then experiment with printing the reels out and seeing which size fits best for what I'm wanting to achieve, However before I begin I'm going to have to backtrack prior to the conception of this assignment.
When I came up with the idea for this final piece, I originally planned to shoot a roll or two of film dedicated entirely towards this initiative, However; D ue to time limitations with my A-Level Exam and Coursework deadlines, I am having to reconsider actually using film. My back up plan involves using my Sony A7R, taking advantage of its 35mm Full Frame sensor, along with my film emulation preset technique in order to reproduce the qualities of shooting on film, I will even be using the same lenses. To make this work with my final piece, I shall digitally stitch the photos taken from my A7R over the images from one of the rolls that I scanned earlier for this project.
To document how I'm going to do this I have made a video which you can see below, which shows my work process on Adobe Photoshop, whilst I stitch the new images.
And heres the finished product (click on it to enlarge image or click here for full res image):
After importing the new digital photographs onto the strip of film I have come to the conclusion that the results a very similar to the originals, The reel I used for this test had not been properly cleaned so the images that used to be on were smudged and had some dust covered on them, when I finished I decided to use the blur tool on the digital images to make them fit in a bit more realistically. Futhermore, as I was putting the digital photographs in, after I cropped them over the original negative, I used the eraser tool to make the round the edges a bit to again make them look more authentic like the original negatives.
Now that I feel positive about the efforts I have made to make the photographs shot on my A7R looks as if they were shot on film, I can now continue to working out how I'm going to print the contact sheets out.
