UNIT 3 - AO3 - Flip book idea

Now that AO3 is here I am trouble shooting final pieces for AO4, last year for UNIT 1 I produced a 48 page book on light painting, for UNIT 2 I produced a display piece on urban photography and for UNIT 3 I wanted to find a merger of my two previous works whilst keeping some of the key themes that I appreciated.

Over summer this year I went to austria for two weeks, during that time we stopped briefly at a tourist infomation center where I found a leaflet for a hotel, however the reason why I bring this up is because the book was designed really nice and had a authentic feel. I thought the idea of producing a small book that was the same shape/design could make for a really nice final piece. Below you can see some of the pages from the leaflet/book.

I went on to Adobe Photoshop and attempted to re-create the pages found on the second photograph above, after some effort here is what I produced.

In terms of the typography for the book I decided to use Archer Font as it is bold and is easy to follow and is reminisent of a type-writer. The font used for the actual book is probably Futura Bold in Italic. Although I do like Futura I'd prefer to use Archer because I want to try and be more original instead of just purely copying everything from the book.

Overall I am pleased with the design of the book, I could probably edit a little bit more and crop the text to be a bit smaller on the page. For this article I just wanted to produce a sample of how the book could look as it would require a lot of time and effort to produce the actual thing.

Another thing that I haven't mentioned which is the main issue with this project is trying to wrap my head around the book making process in general.I can't just print out the pages like the example I've shown above then stick them in a sleeve and call it a book. because the sides and layering come into play, printing it out needs to be double sided. But then one top side of the print could be on the start of the book but then the other half is the bottom side on the other half and on the page above it. To organise this, I would have to finish the book as I've done before but then crop the pages into halfs, put them on the another page then flip.

Although I really like the idea of making a little flip book like this I just belive that there is too much margin for error and could become very stressfull if I were to take this project any further.
