For our two day art trip I took around 300 photographs or so with around half being in colour and the other half being in black and white, I was shooting in my 35mm Digital Sony A7R which should boast around the same quality as 35mm Analog Film, London is such a vibrant and rich landscape which really offers great potential for photographers alike to grab a good shot.

With my monochrome shotlist I wanted to specifally focus on street portraiture and use the lighting to my advantage, with my colour however I really wanted to present the full colour pallete of londons street-scape. With the creame whites, to tarmac grays and underground blues. The normal colour scheme on most digital cameras is often just a bit off and tends to be over-saturated. I wanted to make my photographs look as if they'd been shot on film (As the colour is far more realistic and authentic feel.) To do this I shot two identical photographs on two different cameras, one being the A7R and one being my Canon A1 which was loaded with Kodak Porta 400 speed colour film, they had the same lenses on with the exact settings. I loaded the two photographs into Adobe Lightroom where I edited the digital photographs settings until it visually matched with the picture shot on film. Once finished I now technically have the pre-set option to simulate any digital photograph with the appearence of Kodak Portra 400 35mm colour film. You can see an example of the before (left) and after (right) photographs directly below.

Moving on from colour, here are some of the other things that I have not yet mentioned for what I wanted to experiment with in london.

- Slower shutterspeeds (e.g. 1/25th, 1/60th etc.)

- Iconography of london (e.g. its streets, underground railway, cityscape)

- Composistion (diagonal and leading lines)

You can see a full, high resolution photo album on this link. Here are my favourite photographs that I shot on colour whilst I was on my trip in London.

Some of my favourites are because of their imperfections, for example the 2nd image the main subject is out of focus and is remincisnt of the cover for the oasis album cover 'Morning Glory'. Again the 9th Image I also really like because it appears to look like a minature version of the beatles 'Abbey road' cover. With the 3rd image I really wanted to experiment with the idea using a slow shutter speed, looking back at old photographers work, they often used slow-ish shutterspeeds because of the limitations at the time and this could create a distorted effect on the subject if they were to move. The subject looks as if hes being stretched and his open mouth really helps capture the pain and emotion of whats happening to in the frame.
