This is another Flickr Photographer (Source - https://www.flickr.com/photos/donlunzo16) I couldn't resist for studying. Don's a Street photographer who shoo
ts
using the Nikon Df, Fuji X-E2, and pre-ai lens that were introduced in 1959. His work often focuses on minalism when it comes to street. Unlike my last photographer, Vivian Maier, Don shoots in colour and shoots in the normal aspect ratio.
So how do you take photos in the style of Donlunzo?
To shoot in the style of said photographer you have to take number of things into consideration:
Minimalism - when shooting objects keep one thing the main focus of the subject (see fig.3)
Low key is key - the lighting isn't massively vivid but thats part of its charm.
After multiple shoots here is what I produced:

So one of the first photographs I wanted to recreate was Fig.1 (see Fig.4 for my image) - The use of shooting through a bin allows the photographer to isolate his subject. The shape of the hole aswell adds a nice frame to the revealed picture inside.
(settings: ISO:100. Shutter speed: 1/160. Aperture: F/4.)
The secound one I tried to replicate was Fig.2 (see Fig.5 for mine) I went out to the countryside and used a fast aperture to make the background colour and barbed wire smoothed out. I shot in the evening like Don.(settings: ISO:100. Shutter speed: 1/400. Aperture: F/2.8.)
And lastly I wanted to recreate one of the graffiti photos e.g. Fig.3 (see Fig.6 for mine) This one focused on framing a lot I went into town for this one as its rather hard trying to find graffiti art pieces around ecclesall. I found this piece near decatholon. I wanted to frame the photograph so the frame of the window matched the frame of the camera.
(settings: ISO:100. Shutter speed: 1/320. Aperture: F/3.5.)
Conclusion:
I believe I have replicated the photographs I have selected from Don's page effectively. I have enjoyed this style of urban/street photography and shall happily continue to study this for future entries.
