Unlike the previous Ball of light article. I am dedicating this entry to my favourite subject of interest for this unit. I have found dual exposures to be a wonderful challenge not only because of the technical aspect in terms of exposure and angles but also because of composition.

In preparation for this and for AO4. Here is what I took:

With previous multiple exposures I would shoot a silhouette image then take another image to fill it the dark areas of the portrait. With this work I am changing small aspects of how its done. Firstly I am now now setting the camera so its now slightly under-exposed compared to under-exposed. This allows me to capture and keep the details / colour from the portrait when it morphs with the second exposure (Look at the hands and head.)

(Camera Settings: ISO:100. Aperture: F/1.8. Shutter speed: 1/125)

Ideas for AO4:

A real Dual exposure:

For this idea I was thinking of printing the two images used for the dual exposure and printing them onto tracing paper. Then making a small rectangular prism (roughly A4 size with lights on inside) I would frame the two photographs at either side of the box so you could see the dual exposure on both sides of the product allowing the viewer to see how the photo fills the portrait.

I have high hopes that this project will work as I've done it previously back in my GCSE photography years when I experimented to see if I could replicate this photo (found below) using tracing paper. My results found that it would work for 1/3 exposures with the aid of the light board, thus the reason I would feature the lights inside the box.

Conclusion:

After some heavy research into making the idea become a reality I have decided that would too difficult / time consuming to create. I have also chosen not to do this because I there wasn't a wide range of things I could create for this study.
